Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why do we baptize in Jesus’ name?

A. The only baptismal formula found in the New Testament is the one using “…in Jesus name”. Though many people cite St. Matthew 28:19, where Jesus said to “baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”, he wasn’t giving a formula, but causing his disciples to recognize his divinity; for Jesus came in his Father’s name and sent the Holy Spirit in his name. (St. John 14:26). On the day of Pentecost, those who received the preached message of the Apostle Peter asked, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:37; 4:10-12; 19:1-5 NIV)

Q. Do I need the Holy Spirit?

A. In Christendom, some people have not heard of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Yet, Paul makes it clear that the Spirit of God lives in every born again believer. “You however, are controlled not by the sinful nature, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” (Romans 8:9 NIV)

Q. What must I do to join Victory?

A. To join Victory Apostolic Church, you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and attend a new members’ class which is held every other month, on the first Sunday.

Q. Can a person join Victory Apostolic Church on Christian experience?

A. The Victory Family is honored that you would consider becoming a member of our church family. However, joining Victory is not enough to secure your salvation. To join Victory means that you have been reborn by placing your complete trust and confidence in Jesus Christ and receiving Him into your heart as your personal Savior. To make your salvation secure is to have spiritual rebirth. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” By being born again, you must be born of water and of the Spirit. (St. John 3:3-5 NIV)

There is Christian Education Bible Study for the youth during first service on Sunday. Youth Church on Sunday morning is held concurrently during the adult worship service, excluding first Sunday when we celebrate Family Day as a whole church.

Q. Can I be saved by good works?

A. We all love to do good works or deeds, but doing good works or trying to do your best to go to heaven on good merits will not save you. Salvation comes by God’s grace. Grace is God’s love, kindness, and unmerited favor toward sinners. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV)
